MTS - VM Lifecycle Team - Austin

We are seeking highly talented engineers to join our VM Lifecycle team. in Austin, TX. The mission of this team is two-fold. The first one is to increase adoption of the Hybrid Cloud by enabling mobility across clouds. As a member of our team, you will design and build products that make the Hybrid Cloud a reality.
The other focus is to own and enhance the entire lifecycle of virtual machines, right from virtual machine creation to deletion, including emphasis on our flagship products - vMotion/Storage vMotion. As part of this effort, you will design and implement novel operating system techniques and distributed system algorithms for the vCenter product. You will participate in designing and implementing highly scalable components in the vSphere platform for large, distributed management servers used to control and configure VMware virtual machines.

Depending on the type of project, you may have a chance to publish your work as a paper at prestigious conferences, release your product as a Fling or see it rolled out as part of the core vSphere product, making lives better for millions of IT administrators

We are looking for engineers who thrive on developing management solutions to the diverse problems in a virtual environment and have a passion for solving complex problems in the area of virtualization.


Responsibilities include design, implementation and testing application code. Since the requirements are to be able to write code which can scale and needs to be highly performant, these projects will also require building automated tools to measure, analyze and tune performance and scalability.


  • Multithreaded programming, knowledge of distributed systems, server-side programming
  • Strong experience with C++ programming, system architecture and algorithms
  • Python, Perl, or similar scripting languages
  • Must have Linux and Windows experience
  • A passion for writing high-quality, well-architected and well-documented code
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent understanding of how to use various algorithms to write optimized code
