Manager of Privacy & Compliance

We are currently seeking a Manager of Privacy & Compliance at our Irvine, CA headquarters.

Privacy and Compliance Lead responsible for managing VIZIO's corporate compliance program, including maintaining and executing privacy policies, procedures and guidelines, and adherence to regulatory requirements applicable to the sale and manufacture of internet-connected devices.

  • The Privacy and Compliance Lead is responsible for overall development, enhancement and operations of the existing privacy and product compliance programs, including maintenance of and compliance with policies and procedures ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to automate, document and simplify compliance mechanisms.
  • Maximize VIZIO Inc.'s ability to be compliant and auditable through automation.
  • Augment and maintain compliance programs across the company's business units.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the privacy subject matter expert at VIZIO.
  • Drive agenda and management of privacy committee.
  • Be responsible for helping our teams understand how to handle sensitive information.
  • Partner with Legal experts to monitor and interpret the various data privacy laws, regulations, contractual obligations and industry best practices relating to data privacy and our product compliance obligations.
  • Enhance the existing program, policies, procedures and guidelines for data privacy and our product compliance obligations to continually improve our compliance posture.
  • Work with our business groups to maintain accurate data inventories, flows and classifications.
  • Build strong partnerships across all of VIZIO's business units including, legal, product, engineering, business development, finance, sales and marketing to ensure that all products, offerings and practices comply with data privacy and compliance requirements.
  • Carry out privacy impact and other product compliance assessments consistent with our privacy program and other compliance procedures and guidelines.
  • Oversee, develop and deliver effective privacy and product compliance training and guidance to workforce and other third parties as needed.
  • Collaborate with International stakeholders in order to develop privacy programs tailored specifically for local countries.
  • Embed privacy and product compliance into the company's culture, addressing all aspects necessary for best practices in the compliance program, including training, communication and monitoring/auditing.
  • Investigate and respond to privacy or other data events or incidents, in collaboration with Legal, IT, and other stakeholders.

Procedure Manuals / Development and Maintenance:

  • Ensure that documented compliance guidance is in place for internal employees as well as external business partners.
  • Responsible for developing updating and maintaining Legal/Compliance guidance.

  • In consultation with Legal, research and analyze laws and regulations to provide written guidance to appropriate business units for implementation.

Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of US and international privacy laws, regulations and best practices, including in the technology and Internet of Things sectors
  • Strong technical knowledge to effectively partner with product, engineering, information security, and data / business development teams

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, J.D preferred, license to practice law in California (preferred)
  • IAPP Privacy Certification (To be obtained within first year of employment)
  • Minimum 5 -7 years privacy experience
  • Privacy certification preferred
  • Active with privacy and data protection professional communities
  • Familiarity with information technology (applications and architectures) used in enterprise system
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
