VICE x News
The award-winning VICE News team develops and produces news content across VICE platforms and partner platforms. The news team focuses on in-depth longform storytelling and unique and creative ways to relay topical daily news. This is a collaborative team that works together to make everyone’s stuff better. We believe in listening to everyone’s ideas and bringing on a diverse group of people who love working together to make the best, most unique news content out there.
Role x You
As a Senior Producer and Writer, you will guide the editorial direction of a variety of political stories on Vice News Tonight, our award-winning nightly news show, and across all Vice News platforms and shows. You have exceptional political instincts; understand how to distill and demystify Washington politics for viewers outside of Washington; and possess a strong, sharp and distinctive writing voice.
In the short term… you will work with a team of producers and correspondents to develop, shape, and script political stories short and long, breaking and enterprise, as well as talk segments. You’ll have pre-production meetings to delve into angles, arguments, story arc, voice, tone, and other elements of each script. You’ll top-edit and tweak scripts as needed, and work with the team throughout the editing process and final sign off by the EP. Expect to be managing multiple scripts across multiple shows at once.
After 6 months in this role… You’ll be developing sharper and more unique story ideas that set us apart, and making sure our producers and writers are growing as political thinkers and storytellers. You’ll be a valued resource in the bureau when it comes to story and script development.
And after a year.. You’ll comfortably and independently oversee scripts from start to finish, with a full understanding of what makes a Vice News story great. You’ll also have a deeper understanding of the other parts of the story- and show-making processes, making you a leader in the bureau and newsroom.
You have these:
- 5+ years of professional storytelling experience
- Experience writing or editing national politics stories for television, print or digital
- A distinctive writing voice and story ideas to match
- Collaborative team player with a positive attitude
We’d love if you also had these:
- 5-10 years of newsroom experience
- Experience editing national political stories
- Experience working in a fast-paced daily or nightly news environment
- A track record of editing distinctive scripts for video or TV
We want to find people who believe in our goals and feel inspired enough to grow while they’re here to fill the role, rather than someone who checks the boxes but isn’t invested. We encourage you to apply and show us what you’ve got. To learn more read the VICE Guide to VICE
