VICE is an international media company that captures people at the heart of all our stories. We focus on the ideas, issues, and context that other outlets miss. Launched in 1994, VICE operates in 35 cities across the globe, making 1500 pieces of content every day. The company has five lines of business: VICE Digital, an award-winning international network of digital content; VICE STUDIOS, a feature film and television production studio; VICELAND, an Emmy-winning international television network; a Peabody award-winning NEWS division; and VIRTUE, a global, full-service creative agency with 26 offices around the world.
VICE x Team
The insights team at VICE is responsible for creating thought leadership and strategic thinking that fuels the growth of VICE Media Group and its partners. We are experts in primary research methodologies – both qualitative and quantitative - but also surface insights from across VICE’s ecosystem such as content analytics, campaign performance, our DMP and some third party data sources. The team is as much analytical as it is creative. We thrive on curiosity, ambition and collaboration – within the team and across departments.
Role x You
This unique role combines the best of research, strategy and journalism. You are a strategic thinker who is passionate about spotting trends and movements in culture and youth mindsets. You strive to think differently and take thought leadership to a new level.
In the short term you will foster close relationships with creative and editorial teams across VICE Media Group to be fully aware of the content that is emerging and connect the dots to find patterns and spot strategic themes that are arising. You will also work with the insights team to identify interesting datasets and stories that tie in with these emerging ideas. You will spearhead culture and youth trend spotting and reporting to internal and external clients.
After 6 months in this role you will build a robust protocol for analyzing and communicating these trends, from internal memos to in-depth trend reports to published articles and presentations. You will also be collaborating with corporate stakeholders and commercial teams on a wide array of projects that will help shape the future of VICE and brand partners.
And after a year you will build a practice of trend spotting at VMG using the knowledge and experience that you have gathered as well as breaking with convention and creating new ways to gather and analyze information.
You have these:
- 5+ years experience in a strategy or trendspotting role. College degree.
- The ability to think analytically and conceptually
- A compelling and confident storyteller with a passion for making complicated subjects easy to understand in a clear, accurate, smart and interesting manner to a range of audiences
- Experience with consumer research, and the ability to use data and information from a variety of sources in your analysis
- Comfortable initiating projects and working independently
- Proactive, creative, and curious about the world around you
We’d love if you also had these:
- Experience in journalism or a media setting
