Associate Editor, Munchies

SUMMARY

MUNCHIES is seeking an associate editor to join our online editorial team. The editor will be expected to commission articles from freelancers and to regularly write original pieces. Candidates should be well versed in food and culture and have an insatiable drive for finding unique ways to talk about both. This is a fast-paced work environment; the ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining high editorial standards is essential.

 

DUTIES:

  • Assigning and editing 3-4 daily original posts and articles, short-form and in-depth, with emphasis on culture and news traffic stream
  • Updating and managing MUNCHIES city guides
  • Recruiting for MUNCHIES’ freelance stable and ensuring adherence to best practices
  • Uploading, prepping, and scheduling stories in the CMS
  • Working with MUNCHIES Editor-in-Chief and Senior Editor on longer-term editorial planning
  • Editing stories from junior and beat editors
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and other creative processes
  • Able to work effectively with positive attitude in team setting

 

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

  • 3+ years of relevant website content development experience, ideally in food
  • Strong journalism background with an eye for compelling content in the culinary space
  • Team player with all-hands-on-deck attitude
  • Experience pitching and developing website content for major media outlet
  • Familiarity with and ability to meet industry-accepted standards, specifications, and best practices
  • Knowledge of the VICE brand and its properties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, content management systems, and basic Photoshop
