Assistant Product Developer

FUNCTION

Assist with the development of finished products that meet brand standards and financial targets. Participate in sample management and vendor communication throughout the product development process for assigned category(s)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Note: Other duties may be assigned)

  • Collaborate with PD manager, designers and sample room engineers to optimize construction and minimize production cost while maintaining design integrity
  • Assist with evaluation of samples for measurements and construction details against technical specifications and company standards
  • Provide comments for sample reviews and communicate with factory
  • Assist in creating new BOMs for all new styles each season
  • Assist in creating new colorway BOMs for all styles
  • Maintain Bill of Materials through every step of development until pre-production approval
  • Update and verify all BOM materials have been approved prior to photo-sample order and pre-production approval
  • Ensure Flex data and statuses are current and accurate at all times
  • Collaborate with Sourcing team to review costing for all new products throughout all development stages in order to meet margin requirements set by Merchandising
  • Assist Design, Merchandising and Sourcing in problem solving various development challenges
  • Order, track and update status for all counter and field test samples through EC vision
  • Run a weekly sample tracking report every Monday and ensure due dates are being met
  • Support PD manager to work with Quality team and evaluate testing requirements, ensure appropriate protocols are researched and finished goods tested through SGS for all new products.
  • Assist PD manager with customs compliance product review: Schedule seasonal review w/ logistics team and provide spec details to support accurate HTS classification
  • Assist with product storage, organization and set up for various team meetings

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School graduate required, bachelor’s degree in apparel merchandising, textile design, or related field preferred
  • Experience in related field preferred

  • Strong PC skills utilizing Microsoft Office software including working knowledge of Illustrator
  • Working knowledge of Flex PLM a plus
  • General understanding of development and production processes
  • Working knowledge of sewing construction and understanding of pattern-making
  • Familiarity with design characteristics and knowledge of fabrics
  • Enthusiasm for design, fabrics and product development
  • A good eye for color, proportions and functionality of product

  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, and phones
  • Overseas and domestic travel required as necessary
