Temporary Grant Writer

Venture for America is a nonprofit startup that recruits, selects, and trains highly talented recent college graduates, places them at startups in emerging US cities for two years of hands-on experience, and provides them with access to the network and resources to become company builders and job creators. The Fellowship is highly selective, as is our team, and we’re looking for people who can jump in and make a huge impact.

We are looking for a talented and seasoned grant writer to join our team on a temporary basis.  As a grant writer, you will serve a critical function within our development team, supporting our fundraisers and relationship-managers in telling the VFA story. This is a temporary contract position.  Qualified candidates must be able to commit from September through late January / early February 2018.

  • Are a strong writer with a way with words.  You can tell the story behind data and bring our impact to life for our supporters
  • Are creative in your thinking.  You can think beyond what we’ve already done to tell our story in new, compelling ways
  • Are a grant writing expert with a record of successfully funded foundation and corporate grants
  • Are deeply connected with our mission to strengthen cities through entrepreneurship; direct connection with a VFA city a plus
  • Are versed in the current startup, entrepreneurship and innovation landscape, and able to clearly, concisely draw connections between these trends, our work and our desired impact
  • Hold a B.A./B.S. and 5+ years professional experience in high-growth nonprofits, particularly in securing multi-year commitments from donors

What You'll Do:

  • Work alongside our CEO, Director of Development, Community Directors and the rest of the Development team to draft fundraising documents, including proposals, sponsorship materials, impact reports
  • Liaise with internal departments to gather data and pull fresh insights to frame our impact for potential funders
  • Uphold the VFA mission in all areas of your work

To Apply

  • Submit your CV and a cover letter that explains:
  • Why you identify with the VFA Mission
  • Your approach to grant writing and a successful proposal that illuminates how you developed it
  • Why this is the right opportunity for you at this point in your career
