Director of Northeast Ohio

We are currently seeking an outgoing, results-oriented leader to manage Venture for America’s regional operations in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. The Director serves as the face of Venture for America in the region, liaising with Company Partners and Donors and helping VFA Fellows develop on their professional journeys. The Director of Northeast Ohio will execute new strategic directions for the organization in Ohio, including expanding Fellow placements in northeast Ohio beyond Cleveland. This is a multi-faceted role that requires a strong performer with a proven track record.

The Director will work closely with multiple teams at Venture for America headquarters, and should plan to spend ~ 1 week in residence at Venture for America Training Camp in July, as well as one week in our New York City headquarters each quarter with more time during onboarding. Other travel requirements will include occasional visits to other VFA cities for Job Fairs, Selection Days, and other events. The Director will also participate in VFA recruitment and selection events on an ongoing basis, as is expected of all team members.

  • Have a B.A./B.S. and 5+ years of experience, ideally in a partnerships, fundraising or sales role
  • Prior startup experience preferred
  • Prior grant writing experience preferred

What you'll do:

  • Company Partnerships (40%)
  • Meet with 60+ startup leaders annually to identify, vet, and onboard Company Partners to hire VFA Fellows
  • Help Company Partners identify talent needs and advise them throughout the VFA hiring process
  • Work directly with incoming VFA Fellows to identify ideal roles based in their skills and industry interests

  • Fundraising (40%)
  • Establish relationships with current VFA funders in Northeast Ohio and secure new funding for the organization, raising a minimum of $300,000 annually
  • Work with the Director of Columbus & Cincinnati to manage and execute state-wide grants
  • Write top-caliber proposals and reports to funding organizations under strict deadlines
  • Recruit and manage potential Advisory Board members to help lead VFA’s strategic direction in each city

  • Programs and Fellow Support (20%)
  • Meet regularly with Fellows and serve as a sounding board in their career progression
  • Organize monthly (or more frequent) events for Fellows including speaker series and community-building exercises
  • Work closely with Fellow City Liaisons to strengthen the program
  • Recruit new mentors and volunteers to support the VFA program
