Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy

As a member of our corporate strategy team in this role you will provide strategy expertise in support of Vanguard's mission, clients, products, and crew. You will be a critical leader supporting strategic analysis across assigned Vanguard business units.

In this role, you will...

1. Provide direction and guidance to a team of strategy analysts aligned with each Vanguard line of business around key strategic topics and questions.
2. Act as a thought leader by identifying strategic topics and presenting compelling ideas for research evaluation to the Corporate Strategy organization. Drive the continuous evolution of the group's approach to and frameworks for evaluating strategic decisions.
4. Assist the Chief Strategy Officer in formulating and implementing the department agenda.
5. Conduct efficient and thorough analyses of substantial (i.e., high impact) strategic issues confronting Vanguard following corporate strategy methodologies. Leverage and manage cross-functional teams as required. Prepare and present strategic analysis, findings, and recommendations to senior management (e.g., story-lines, presentations, white papers).
6. Keep abreast of industry, market and company trends, and partner with business leaders to understand key concerns and opportunities for each line of business; tailor analysis and synthesis around these topics.

What it takes.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience (Master's degree or PhD preferred).
  • Minimum of eight years related experience, including very substantial experience in strategy consulting and financial analysis.
  • Ability to lead complex strategic engagements with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills to senior management.
  • Deep understanding of Vanguard's primary business strategy in at least two of its five business segments.
  • Excellent project management and prioritization skills.

During the pandemic, we transitioned to a work from home model for the majority of our crew and we continue to interview, hire, and on-board future crew remotely.

When our Crew return to the office, many will work in our hybrid model. A smaller proportion of our crew will operate in the Work from Home work model (for example, field sales crew); or in the Work from Office model (for example, portfolio managers).
