Senior Infrastructure Services Manager

Vanguard, one of the world's largest investment management companies and a recognized employer of choice, seeks a Senior Infrastructure Services Manager. The Senior Infrastructure Services Manager position is a technical/management role. The Senior Infrastructure Services Manager is responsible for: managing IT technologies and a group of technical IT Infrastructure engineers, developing and establishing IT infrastructure standards and procedures, and assigns work to the engineering staff and the analysis, design, and deployment of IT software and hardware systems supporting the business. This individual will work closely with the IT management team and business units to ensure alignment with the company's objectives. The ideal candidate must have both leadership and technical skills to effectively and efficiently manage IT Infrastructure technologies and personnel. The preferred candidate will have a strong knowledge of and experience with data center engineering and operations across the network, server and storage technology stacks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all daily aspects of Infrastructure Engineering Team responsible for the design and implementation of infrastructure technology services and solutions
  • Manage staff members in their daily activities as well as supporting business projects
  • Prepare overall status and activity metrics that documents and tracks delivery of IT services, planned and unplanned system outages, and other key IT performance metrics
  • Ensures high availability of critical business systems
  • Owns and maintains strict controls on data/system backups and recoverability
  • Manage overall capacity utilization of Server/hardware environment ensuring it is optimized to meet business requirements
  • Contribute to the development of IT departmental strategies to align with the overall business strategy as well as corporate strategy
  • Work with the architecture team to develop and implement hardware and software standards for infrastructure technologies
  • Develop, implement, and maintain processes and procedures for effective delivery of services and compliance with regulatory guidance and controls
  • Establish and implement 'best-practice' standards as well as departmental policies and procedures
  • Determine, recommend and implement hardware and software upgrades for infrastructure technologies
  • Develop and manage relationships with vendors in support of staff augmentation and systems support
  • Participate in management of key vendors and contract negotiations in support of technology implementation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of IT experience with 5 years of IT management experience preferred
  • Experience with functional and technical aspects of IT support services and related infrastructure solutions, capabilities and technologies including the following:
  • Windows and/or Linux-based operating systems
  • Virtualization – VMware/Hyper V
  • Distributed Computing Hardware Technologies
  • Network Technologies
  • Directory Services – Active Directory/LDAP
  • SAN Storage and Storage Solutions
  • Middleware and monitoring administration
  • Backup and restoration services
  • Disaster recovery services
  • Issue tracking systems
  • Project management
  • Must have proven management skills with the ability to mentor staff members
  • Must have good people skills and the ability to interact and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Must take a lead role as an IT manager and act as a go-to person when it comes to IT infrastructure technologies supporting both projects and operations
  • Must build/maintain and manage a strong infrastructure team that is capable of operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a champion for IT standards, procedures, policies, and best practices with the infrastructure team
  • Must be very proactive in understanding and staying up-to-date on the current projects in progress, projects in pipeline and operational issues. Similarly, must stay up-to-date with industry technology trends and applicability of software/hardware solutions



  • Manages four to seven common storage staff and up to ten IT vendor personnel.
  • Manages annual budget of $30M
