Mission Critical Facilities Manager

To direct and implement short and long term strategic plans to effectively manage the global life cycle equipment replacement and operations for all Vanguard’s mission critical facilities (data centers, colos, main distribution frames, and intermediate distribution frames)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage staff, creating a strong team atmosphere. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and provide guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hire, evaluate and counsel personnel. Follow corporate performance management procedures per established Vanguard standards as required. Set performance standards, review performance, provide feedback, and recommend wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Determines facility engineering and operational requirements that support current and future technology goals for Vanguard. Provides leadership on the development of portfolio wide standards, including contract requirements, and process improvements for our mission critical facilities programs. Lead research on global industry best practices and innovation of mission critical infrastructure and distribution implementation.
  • Manages the relationship of professional engineers, technical service providers, local/state/federal officials, contractors, and internal stakeholders that provide operations and maintenance services related to the building infrastructure and distribution systems of Vanguard’s data centers, colos, main distribution frames, and intermediate distribution frames.
  • Leads organizational planning for facilities management services of Vanguard’s data centers, colos, main distribution frames, and intermediate distribution frames facilities. Effectively manages the operations and maintenance of all Vanguard mission critical facilities, with built in redundancy and no single source of knowledge.
  • Manages facility availability and contingency planning/execution of Vanguard’s data centers, colos, main distribution frames, and intermediate distribution frames facilities.
  • Provides leadership oversight on risk avoidance, applicable facility regulatory requirements (local/state/federal) for mission critical system implementation and operations. Oversees development of global annual life cycle capital project budgets in support of Vanguard’s business strategies.
  • Acts as the executive between Vanguard and professional engineering consultants, contractors, and service providers providing mission critical system services. This includes technical assistance and consultation relative to acquisition of new data center/colo facility sites and regarding planning, construction, renovation, and operations.
  • Manages automation, control, and monitoring requirements for mission critical facilities by Vanguard’s 24/7 Global Facilities Support Center.
  • Develops and manages the facilities management budget, both capital and expense, for Vanguard’s mission critical facilities. Reviews expenses and ensures unit operates within budgetary guidelines.
  • Actively contributes to the development of short and long-term organizational plans for Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Management Department as related to supporting Vanguard’s mission critical facilities.
  • Manages operational efficiency for mission critical facilities. Sets measurable goals and examines ways to raise standards, increase quality of efforts, and improve overall performance of the mission critical facilities. Analyzes related statistics and prepares reports to upper management. Uses available data to monitor progress and measure success. Drives best practices benchmarking with professional organizations such as the International Facilities Management Association.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum five years general experience with a minimum of two years of experience in financial services
  • Financial reporting and accountability experience preferred, with focus on capital and operating expenses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent relationship management skills as role entail significant interaction with a variety of external entities and internal senior leadership
  • Strategic and detail oriented; analytical within a team environment.
  • Engineering License or industry certification desirable
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Knowledge of computer software related to field such as Building Automation Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, CADD & CAFM.

Special Factors:

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Available for off-hour contingency.
