The Head of Sales Strategic Planning and Organizational Alignment for Vanguard's $2 trillion Financial Advisor Services (FAS) division, will play a critical role in helping drive Vanguard's largest and fastest growing division's strategy and business outcomes by ensuring that the FAS Sales organization has as well defined and implemented strategy, governance, and operational alignment across Sales and its go-to-market partners such as Marketing and Offer teams. This role will offer the leader the opportunity to drive large-scale organizational impact, develop his/her team, and high visibility with senior leaders across the FAS and Vanguard organizations. The FAS Division has $2 trillion in assets and partners with many of the largest financial institutions across all intermediary channels including Broker Dealers, Banks, Registered Investment Advisors, and Insurance companies.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the team responsible for business planning and strategy efforts for the FAS Sales organization. The team will be responsible for working with various stakeholders including Marketing, Sales, Offer, Information Technology and external organizations to develop a consistent and effective planning process and make recommendations to Senior Leadership regarding the strategy and related execution blueprint for the sales organization.
  • Manage individuals responsible for conducting rigorous market research and obtaining information from stakeholders and various data sources that are necessary to effectively develop the long-term Sales strategy. Develop a process through which FAS systematically collect insights on products, processes and competitive intelligence from the Sales organization.
  • Lead the team responsible for ad-hoc strategic cross-channel initiatives and projects that arise as a result of competitive developments, the introduction of new Vanguard products or services, or exploratory strategic or operational ideas.
  • Manage the team responsible for the coordination and the execution of FAS' go-to-market strategy within the Sales organization and drive operational and strategic alignment between the Offer, Marketing and Sales teams by establishing and operating various governance and decision-making committees.
  • Ensure that the Sales organization maintains an aggregate portfolio view of key strategic and operational initiatives in order to help inform the broader organization of instances where initiatives do not align with broader strategy or desired business outcomes. Make necessary strategic and tactical recommendations to ensure that the initiatives can be properly prioritized, rolled-out, adopted and sustained within the Sales organization.
  • Hire, develop and lead crew, building a strong team atmosphere. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and providing mentorship, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff to help them reach their full potential.
  • Be the advocate and voice for Sales Strategy and Operations within the FAS organization and across the enterprise. Participate on or chair various types of governance committees. Effectively communicating and deliver presentations to executive audiences. Cultivate relationships with senior leaders and their teams that help you move objectives forward, ensuring successful adoption.

What it takes

  • Minimum of eight years related work experience. Five years of experience in sales process management preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Ability to quickly develop a command of new concepts, including big data/data analytics/business intelligence, marketing measurement/ROI; complete multiple and diverse assignments with the highest level of accuracy and quality.
  • Demonstrated skills in people leadership, strategic thinking, and project management and prioritizing work.
  • Lead a diverse group of professionals and skilled at working through others along with experience in building and leading teams.
  • Superior organizational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully up, down and sideways in the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills to senior management.
  • The ability to work in an ad-hoc/dynamic and fast-paced environment with frequent time-sensitive deadlines.
