Corporate Action Analyst

To serve as a technical expert who possesses a comprehensive understanding of rules and regulations, technology functionality, and procedures relating to Corporate Actions to ensure correct client tax reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides oversight support through monitoring and approving all Corporate Actions events processed by Reconciliation Financial Administrators in Regulated Output. Acts as the primary liaison with SBO for all Corporate Actions paid through Position Management. Reviews and analyzes corporate action events in BETA and Maxit to determine taxability and cost basis treatment. Has a strong understanding of both BETA and Maxit system capabilities to analyze their potential to process events accurately.

  2. Identifies, analyzes, and investigates actual or potential complex and/or elevated cost basis system issues. Demonstrates strong ownership while promptly resolving the financial risk by working with internal and external partners. Effectively communicates and escalates issues to management as needed.

  3. Serves as a Subject Matter Expert by analyzing business opportunities, resolving problems independently, and exercising judgment when offering alternative solutions. Anticipates obstacles as a result of thorough understanding of the process, including both downstream and upstream impact. Specially serves as a Corporate Action Subject Matter Expert for Cost Basis and Tax and educates other on the associated processes.

  4. Develops and maintains an advanced level understanding of cost basis processes, the systems utilized, and regulatory requirements. Understands how data flows through the cost basis system; what the inputs and outputs are, and how the underlying calculations work.

  5. Follows a logical, systematic approach to problem solving, exercising sound judgment and sound decision making while focusing on client expectations and improving effectiveness and efficiency of operations. Manages the impact to our business partners and clients. Leverages resources and past experiences to independently meet challenges and provide viable alternative solutions as needed.

  6. Provides guidance and instruction to business partners, such as tax operations and cost basis operations. Takes ownership for supplying business partners with correct information that directly impacts their business.

  7. Produces cost basis centric metrics and utilizes VUE concepts to identify trends and make recommendations regarding improving efficiencies while reducing the cost to serve investors. Regularly reviews metrics and improvement recommendations with leadership team.

  8. Participates in discussions and activities related to cost basis topics. Participates in meetings, demonstrations, overviews, and training sessions with internal and external partners.

  9. Ensures procedures are up to date. Periodically reviews procedures library and ensures proper procedures/controls are appropriate and being utilized.

  10. Leads, supports, and drives to implementation special projects and performs other duties as assigned. Executes projects independently and collaborates with crew at all levels. Understands trade-offs to balance risk with client needs.

  11. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
  • Three years progressively responsible work experience
  • Strong understanding of cost basis processes, systems, and related regulatory requirements
  • Understands corporate actions, including the impact to client reporting
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to analyze complex business and technical issues, and develop potential solutions or recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with various departments, management, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of Vanguard systems, including WAVE, VAST, and Beta preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

Special Factors:

May include occasional extended hours, including weekend or evening, to support elevations or other critical business activities.
