USA TODAY is looking for an experienced, savvy reporter to join its 30-person Washington Bureau, covering the White House and the Trump administration. This reporter would join a team covering the administration and would focus on bigger-picture enterprise and analysis, while also putting the daily headlines of this newsy White House into context. We're looking for someone who can cultivate sources, develop a beat and deliver stories that resonate inside the beltway but especially in the homes of Americans.

This reporter will focus on explanatory, watchdog and storytelling pieces that examine the successes and challenges of the White House and administration. The work will focus on quick-turn analysis, mixed with watchdog and explanatory coverage that sheds light on the workings of the White House, the administration and the impact on the nation. The reporter will also partner with other journalists on video, graphics and data visualization, and innovative mobile presentations.

  • A fine-tuned sense of right and wrong and a keen understanding of how to make complex topics relatable.
  • A deep understanding of how to use records and data to answer questions.
  • The organizational ability to manage projects and juggle short-term and long-term reporting efforts.
  • The ability to digest large amounts of information, "see the story," and execute with urgency as needed
  • Excellent storytelling skills
