The Arizona Republic/ , the largest newsroom in Arizona, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a Consumer Travel Reporter who can break news, jump on trending stories, produce thoughtful enterprise and anticipate the questions people have about travel.

This reporter will follow news and trends at the local and national level, producing a combination of breaking items, enterprise and multimedia projects in a fast-paced, competitive market.

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of public records research, search engine optimization, social media platforms and online production tools.

Consumer Travel Reporter coverage areas include:

Air travel: Metro Phoenix has two commercial airports. This reporter will cover TSA, security issues and passenger traffic trends- and craft consumer problem-solving pieces such as guides to food, retail and services in the terminals and how to navigate peak seasonal crunch times, breaking news such as weather-related delays or computer outages.

Trending topics/breaking news: What are people talking about and how can we help them understand? People behaving badly on planes and in terminals, COVID-19 travel developments, Phoenix airports adding new flights. You'll use Twitter, Dataminr, Google Trends and other in-the-moment sources to get in front of such stories.

Providing information people are searching for: Use SEO techniques and Google Trends to find out what questions people are asking right now and anticipate future questions. Will my flight from Phoenix be canceled because of a storm back East? Does my child need a passport? How can I find the lowest airfares?

Arizona/regional travel topics: Report on small airlines with a big presence here, hotels and resorts (including new properties, significant renovations, summer resort deals), popular Arizona and regional destinations such as Sedona, Havasupai Falls, Southern California and Las Vegas.

Enterprise and storytelling: Deep dive into local airport financing, revenues and growth trends. Lookbehind the scenes at companies and organizations driving Arizona's tourism industry; profiles of interesting, perhaps unsung, people in the industry.
