The Gainesville Sun is seeking an enterprising reporter to cover the University of Florida and health. It is a prime beat at an opportune time. The issues of campus life and health are complex, evolving and crucial to our community, and have interest across the state and nation. We are looking for someone who can delve into higher education concerns over academic freedom, campus growth, student diversity and inclusion at a time when UF will soon begin seeking a new president.

UF also operates a statewide health complex centered in Gainesville with six hospitals, related clinics and a medical school. This job includes coverage of those large employers while joining a statewide team of Gannett reporters covering the pandemic.

We are a digitally-focused newsroom that emphasizes high-value journalism that reaches a wide, growing audience of subscribers. We value diversity and inclusion in our staff and in our work.

Gainesville is in the heart of the springs country of north central Florida, close to both coasts, along with major urban hubs including Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa.
