The Panama City News Herald is looking for an engaging opinion page editor passionate about using the newspaper's voice to elevate community discussion that leads to positive change. The ideal candidate enjoys robust conversation with community stakeholders, is able to lead community wide discussion through the written word, town hall discussion and face-to-face interaction. The opinion editor acts as one of the primary external voices to connect the public with the News Herald and its partner newspapers through outreach, editorials and editorial board management.
The opinion editor is responsible for working with community stakeholders in the Panhandle to encourage diverse viewpoints through guest editorials and letters, as well as facilitating a community advisory board to learn from diverse viewpoints.
Candidates must be digitally savvy and able to present opinion content through a variety of platforms including social media, online and live interactions. An understanding of audience analytics is a must.
Candidates should have at least five years of newsroom experience and the skills necessary to utilize all digital platforms.
