The Asheville Citizen-Times, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a reporter who thrives on breaking news and is eager to write impactful stories that will get the community talking and sharing.
The job includes coverage of public safety agencies and courts, but it is more than just a cops beat. This reporter will focus on the news of the day, which will range from serious to light-hearted. He or she will be expected to write both quick bites and regular enterprise, focusing on both public safety and general assignment topics.
The ideal candidate knows that good storytelling often includes a video component so some video experience is preferred. This reporter would need to build a story quickly for digital platforms and then know how to advance the story with an engaging lead and well sourced copy.
This reporter should have a strong social media presence, be energetic and eager to work in a digital-first newsroom.
This position involves an early start to the day and a shift on a weekend day.
