The purpose of this position is to troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical equipment essential to the operation of the production departments while following all safety precautions. This position will also assist equipment operators in determining problems, rig and install new equipment, and remove equipment that is no longer needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. *Accountable to Troubleshoot and repair production equipment mechanical breakdowns in all production areas.

  2. *Ability to understand and trouble shoot electrical issues and be able to make some electrical repairs.

  3. *Responsible to Perform periodic mechanical maintenance on production equipment.

  4. Responsible for Installation and/or relocation of new and used equipment in production areas. Learn equipment operation and maintenance in press, post press, and prepress to be able to troubleshoot and repair equipment.. *Required to train others on new, or existing, production equipment.

  5. Responsible for making enhancements and modifications to used and new equipment. Required to Order equipment parts when necessary. Accountable for thorough communication and record keeping – examples are work order entry, shift overviews, emails, cell phone messaging and verbal updates.

  6. *Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Must be able to adhere to a flexible work schedule, and work additional hours or days when needed.

  7. *Follow all company safety procedures and standards.

  10. Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be required or assigned. *

Essential Function Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  1. Fluent in English (must be able to read and write English)

  2. 3 years of equipment repair and modification experience.

  3. 3 years of machine shop experience.

  4. In-depth knowledge and understanding of newspaper production equipment and all related manufacturing equipment supported by the Production Support department.

  5. Journeyman understanding of all production equipment including the ability to make precision calibrations and repairs, full comprehension with the ability to troubleshoot and rebuild mechanical drives, complete competency in rigging, knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.

  6. Ability to explain operational processes and functions of all production equipment

  7. Ability to handle most situations under the pressures of production.

  8. Excellent written and communications skills.

  9. Basic machining skills (i.e., lathe, grinders, milling machine)

  10. Experience in welding and cutting torches

  11. Experience in fabricating and assembly

  12. Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics

  13. Experience in pipefitting

  14. Knowledge of electronics

  15. PC experience - Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SAP

  16. Experience with forklift and man-lift operation

  17. Experience with rigging equipment

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs installing parts on equipment as needed.
