Set up and operate machine tools, assemble parts and mechanism, etc., applying knowledge of the mechanics or shop mathematics, metal properties, studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches or description of part to be replaced. Must be able to read and/or interpret blueprints. Must be able to diagnose causes of malfunction of industrial machines and correct malfunctions. Repair or make parts using hand tools such as scrapers, files, drills and machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, etc. Must be able to work with oils, greases, inks, and chemicals related to printing and Machine Shop operations. Must be able to make safe hookup and rigging to cranes hoists, come-a-longs, etc. to remove or install parts in equipment or for rebuilding and repairing operations. Responsible for proper care and handling of all hazardous material and waste in compliance with federal, state, local and OSHA rules and regulations as it relates to Machine Shop operations. Specific Skills:

Must be 18 or over and physically able and capable of performing all levels of journeyman and machinist skills. Must have some knowledge of electro/mechanical equipment. Must have some knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Must be able to read blueprints. Must be able to submit written documentation. Must be available to work any shift (days, swings, or nights - including Saturdays and Sundays) at any of The Arizona Republic owned/leased facility or equipment location.


High school diploma or GED. Three years or more experience as journeyman or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, kneeling, reaching, speaking, hearing, seeing, depth perception, handling, stooping, lifting and carrying (50 lbs.), pushing and pulling (50 lbs.), crawling, crouching, balancing.
