The Austin American-Statesman seeks an investigative reporter to expose abuses of power and provide succor to the most vulnerable.
Our award-winning Austin, Texas, newsroom, which celebrates its 150th birthday this summer, has a storied history of public service journalism that corrects wrongs and improves lives. Statesman projects have spurred changes to laws, led to indictments and have long been a hallmark of helping to keep our Central Texas community strong.
Our team is looking for a journalist with heart, critical thinking skills and the enthusiasm that comes from mastering different topics, following document trails and connecting the dots. We seek a self-starter who loves meeting people, who can find and deliver projects, and who can be discerning, fair, accurate and unselfish.
We are looking for a journalist with at least five years of reporting experience. The ideal candidate is a detailed writer and rigorous fact-checker. They are organized and proficient with databases and public records. Fluency in a second language is a plus.
Our projects run multiplatform, so this reporter would work with a dynamic team of digital engagement editors and visual journalists. Statesman editors are unselfish and focused on the personal growth and success of our staff. We love watchdog journalism and have an unwavering commitment to building a diverse team because we believe that iron sharpens iron.
One last note: Apply even if you think you don't check off every box. We are a newsroom of good people doing good deeds, so we want to meet you.
