The Coloradoan in Fort Collins, Colorado, part of Gannett, Inc. and the USA TODAY NETWORK, is hiring a Government Accountability Reporter for Larimer County, Colorado State University and Poudre School District. This reporter will be responsible for covering both county government and the educational institutions of Fort Collins, with an emphasis how their actions impact residents' lives, the future workforce and the upward mobility of Northern Colorado youths.

This is a job for someone who can take meeting agendas and documents and turn them into stories that matter to residents, parents, students and teachers. The reporter will use social media and other tools to grow audience and engage with the community. We expect this reporter to act quickly on breaking news and produce enterprise and government accountability stories.

Colorado State University is a land-grant university that educates more than 30,000 students and employs nearly 7,500. It is the city's largest employer. It welcomed a new president this year after undergoing a decade of significant building projects on its campus.

Poudre School District educates 30,000 students at more than 50schools, including charter schools. PSD employs about 5,000 people and is one of the city's largest employers.

Larimer County has a population of350,000 and includes the cities of Fort Collins and Loveland, along with the towns of Estes Park, Wellington and Timnath and unincorporated areas that stretch into the mountains.

Fort Collins is a city of 170,0000, and is consistently rated as one of the best places to live in the United States. At the foot of the Rockies, we're an hour north of Denver and home to some of the best outdoors, biking and dining experiences in the region. Oh yeah, and our craft beer scene is pretty great, too.

Requirements Preferred:

• Experience writing for an online/digital news website, newspaper or magazine

• Excellent communication and time management skills; ability to deliver on deadline

• Ability to write accurately and ethically with style and detail

• Good understanding of audience and community-building on social media and in person

• Degree in journalism or similar area of study

• This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
