The Lansing State Journal - part of the USA TODAY NETWORK - has an opening for a part-time editorial assistant to assist in newsroom tasks and day-to-day operations. Ideal candidates will possess excellent writing and oral communication skills, as well as superb proofreading skills as required in any journalism role.
This mostly clerical position will include answering phone calls and emails from the public and routing them through proper channels, which may include the community calendar, letters to the editor submissions, classified/advertising or reporters in various beats throughout the newsroom.
This position is approximately 16 hours per week. Journalism students are encouraged to apply, however those with upper level coursework or portfolio experience will be given higher consideration - additional portfolio and resume-building opportunities are built into this role. Open availability and year-round employees are preferred.
