Editor in Chief, Sports Media Group
Gannett is seeking an Editor in Chief to oversee content strategy across its network of 65 specialty sports brands, including For the Win, HoopsHype, MMA Junkie, the NFL, NBA and College Wires and Golfweek. Specific emphasis will be placed on growing the sports audience (approx. 22M monthly uniques), leveraging sports personnel for the greatest impact and building an effective partnership with ad sales to grow revenue. This position requires a visionary with a proven background conceiving, developing, implementing and managing high-impact content strategies and a strong passion for sports.
Responsibilities:
• Help define the USA TODAY Sports Media Group content strategy to generate traffic and build audience engagement/loyalty
• Develop content initiatives that extend our brand and make us a sports leader on emerging platforms
• Inspire a team of 35 full time employees and many freelancers to execute a dynamic content strategy
• Work closely with our analytics team to discover ways to differentiate our brand and build audience
• Partner with sales and business leadership on ways to increase revenue
• Develop new concepts that extend our brand and increase revenue
• Spot new content and delivery trends ahead of the competitive landscape and formulate ways to take advantage of those opportunities
• Coordinates with the USA TODAY national and local sports divisions.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree
• 12-15 years' relevantwork experience including overseeing an editorial team and developing content with proven results
• A strong knowledge and a passion for sports
• 5 or more years of management at a senior management level
• Passionate leader who isn't afraid of constant change, excels at creating new avenues of audience and knows how to deliver substantial results
• Expertise and success using metrics and implementing them to deliver sustained audience growth
• Demonstrated knowledge of the digital media space from a competitive standpoint
• Understanding of new platforms, video and social and an ability to inspire teams to execute
• Great communicator who can also work closely with sales, marketing and digital to execute on big campaigns
