The USA TODAY Network seeks an experienced reporter for investigations and storytelling on the business of diversity and inclusion, including economic equity and inequity across Ohio.
This beat would explore the many intersections of race and gender, and business and the economy in housing, retailing, construction, communication, government, health care -- the list is almost endless. In addition to the watchdog role this reporter would play, she or he would find experts to explain best practices and advice for economic success.
This reporter would focus coverage on the barriers to creating and obtaining jobs -- and tell the stories of those who experience success.
The successful candidate will cover issues including pay disparities, housing affordability, how race, gender and identity factor into getting ahead at work, obtaining personal and business loans or qualifying for government programs, and other keys to overcoming economic insecurity and building wealth.
To examine these trends, this reporter should be versed in the use of data, familiar with the census and other resources, and have an eye for how numbers reveal patterns and inequities. This reporter will have the opportunity to collaborate with data reporters on analysis, but should bring a self-contained command of data analysis to the job.
Though the reporting will include history, context and perspective, and involve analysis, this reporter must be a great storyteller. These stories should be deeply personal, revealing the lived experiences of the people affected by these opportunity gaps.
