Content Editor - The Palm Beach Post (West Palm Beach)
--
The Palm Beach Post, part of the USA Today Florida Network, is seeking a content editor to be the backbone of an already strong editing team to help lead the newsroom to improve its coverage and achieve its goals. We don't want this editor to sit back and follow orders but instead be a vibrant part of the newsroom, taking part in every aspect of what we do. We want them to come up with innovative strategies and ideas so we'll continue to grow. They will take part in short- and long-term planning for strategy, projects and events.
This editor will have primary responsibility for Print content in the daily newspaper. They will work close with the Managing Editor with regard to planning and placement of Print content, as well as helping plan the next day's digital content
This editor must be well-versed in every piece of content the Post offers, becoming a regular backup for fellow editors, meaning they will be asked to lead various teams at times, from watchdog, to government, to breaking news, community, and education. They will be the safety net for late-breaking stories for the Post and its sister papers in the South Florida Cluster/Region (Palm Beach Daily News, Florida Today, and TCPalm), working key editors at those papers as well.
The ideal candidate will possess strong editing skills and be able to improve stories by helping reporters provide clarity and context, identifying potential holes, and making sure a story stands out for its uniqueness and interest. They will be asked to read everything from quick, breaking news stories to enterprise and explanatory stories.
The editor also will be adept at story promotion and distribution by being versed in story optimization, including great headline writing, SEO and meta-tagging.
The ideal candidate will work well with fellow editors, reporters, multimedia artists, digital producers and planners. This editor will work with all teams to increase digital subscriptions and share content both across the region and nationally. This candidate will understand the Post's multiple platforms, their specific audiences and have a willingness to dig into analytics to better drive coverage.
