The St. Cloud Times, part of Gannett Inc. and the USA TODAY Network, is looking for a fearless, reader-focused cities reporter to document our growing, diversifying region.
We need you to research, report and write compelling stories about how our cities are led and what happens in the neighborhoods for our best-in-the-state digital sites and 7-day print publication.
You'll provide thoughtful daily as well as in-depth reports about complex issues, including the changing demographics of Central Minnesota, tax policy, public projects and people, and produce a watchdog journalism that leads to change.
You will engage with readers on various platforms and in person (when we can), and regularly provide reporting that answers their questions.
You'll be competent with a camera - stills and videos - but will collaborate with our award-winning photographers for the big stories.
And you'll prefer to be away from the office, reporting in person, more than in it.
You'll have a bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, 2-3 years of journalism experience, excellent grammar and writing skills along with the ability to multi-task and thrive in a deadline driven environment, valid driver's license, proof of insurance and dependable transportation.
We are a digital-first newsroom with a new office in downtown St. Cloud where your co-workers are dedicated and committed to experimentation, teamwork and serving our community in our changing industry. We have proven success in delivering nationally award-winning journalism, and we use audience metrics to help guide our coverage. We want to help make you better, and we want you to help us do the same.
We offer a competitive base salary and career growth opportunities. We also offer you a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, paid time off, 11 paid holidays per year, 401(k) employee discount programs and domestic partner benefits.
Reporters with some experience and a willingness to relocate in or near the St. Cloud area should apply.
Application Instructions:
Interested and qualified journalists, please apply here and upload your materials combined into one single document with as much of the following as possible: your updated resume, a brief cover letter explaining your interest and fit for the position, and your portfolio/clips/links to a few samples of your work. *It's important that these items be combined into a single document attachment/upload (preferably in PDF format). The application will only allow one document upload. Completing these steps will ensure that you receive the highest consideration.
