A perfect role for a producer or reporter who wants to get involved with editing and strategy, the audience specialist fulfills a crucial role in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Courier Journal newsroom.

The specialist's primary responsibility is helping create strategies and tactics that help draw in new readers, convert existing readers to subscribers, and keep subscribers coming back for more. Just as importantly, you will be key in communicating these strategies (and the analytics that support them) to the newsroom.

Dailies duties include heading up our newsroom SEO efforts using Google Searchlight and other tools, identifying keywords that we can own, both in the moment and in evergreens, working on high-end social media strategy including TikTok, subscriber groups and more.

While the bulk of the role involves obsessing over audience and analytics, this person will also be responsible for some editing of breaking news, including working with the breaking news reporter to identify stories of interest. Some editing of other reporters may occur. While the balance or these two duties depends on the news of the day, we expect that overall about 20% of the role will be dedicated to editing, with the other 80% of the time spent on audience work.

The ideal candidate has strong digital production and social media skills, experience with newsletters and mobile push alerts, good news judgment and experience in breaking news situations. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic newsroom that has embraced digital subscription growth.

Our preferred candidate is technically savvy with some three-to-five experience. Initially this job is a remote/work from home position. The candidate should be available to relocate to Louisville where he or she will be able to enjoy world-class dining and entertainment options.
