The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio's capital city newspaper, is seeking an assistant editor to work with editors handling Lifestyle/Entertainment and Opinion content for online and print.
The ideal candidate will be collaborative by nature, have a track record of guiding innovative daily and enterprise work, be proficient in the use of digital media, well-versed in using metrics to inform content decisions, have strong editing, writing and organizational skills and set high standards to elevate the quality of their work.
Candidates must be able to multi-task, have a strong knowledge of AP Style and good people skills. We interact daily with colleagues in other Ohio newsrooms, as well as a digital production team and national design center.
The editor in this position will work with both the Features editor and the Opinion editor. Balancing the work between the two departments will require excellent time management and communication skills.
The successful candidate will help budget and edit content for the Features sections: daily Life & Arts, Sunday Arts & Leisure, Books, Travel, and our newly reprised Weekender section that highlights things to do in central Ohio. The Features staff includes a full-time reporter and several freelance writers and reviewers, so the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people working remotely is paramount.
This person also will help manage, produce and solicit opinion content, participate in editorial board meetings and engage with our community advisers. The candidate must stay current on local, state and national news that affects life in central Ohio.
