Position Summary:
Assist in the nursing care and preparation of obstetrical and/or obstetrical-surgical patients. Function as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and issuing instruments to surgeons. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
ASSESSMENT - Complete designated portion of obstetrics triage records; relate findings and co-signs assessment with RN
PATIENT CARE - Perform basic invasive procedures to include blood draws and catheterizations; assist in deliveries
PATIENT CARE - Assist with complicated procedures to include amniocentesis, PBS and emergency cesarean section scrub; set up/clean delivery rooms; prepare and drape patient and operating area; prepare and maintain sterile field for surgical procedures
PATIENT CARE - Provide basic patient care and make rounds; report and record any changes observed in patient behavior or condition, or unusual incidents
SPECIMENS - Assist in maintenance and care of specimens; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis; transport specimens to appropriate departments as needed
TRANSFER - Facilitate patient movement (e.g., admission, transfer) by assisting nursing staff and supervisors as needed
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments
EQUIPMENT - Set up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operations
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies
RESPONSE - Respond immediately to surgical supply requests from the Operating Room; must react with a sense of urgency, be courteous and service oriented at all times
SURGICAL SUPPLY - Communicate and find instrumentation requiring rapid turnaround for the next case; understand event related sterility and sterility indicators; check for discrepancies and take corrective action before making delivery of location
SURGICAL SUPPLY - Pick supplies, instrumentation, and other required items for the completion of Operating Room cases; arrange supplies in the case carts according to procedure ensuring accuracy and proper documentation; deliver completed case carts to the appropriate locations as determined by the Surgical Services Department
DATA - Collect and enter required data; prepare reports as directed
DOCUMENTATION - Document all patient care activities
CUSTOMER RELATIONS - Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and Hospitals employees
COMMUNICATION - Handle and relay basic communications, messages
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes

CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
