You will be a senior technology leader accountable for the Network & Security Internet Services (NSIS) organization globally as a key member of the Core Infrastructure & Operations Platform (CIOP) leadership team. The NSIS organization provides data center networking, security tools, internet and employee connectivity, load balancing and DNS. You will maintain and continue to deliver a universally available, secure and performant network service capability for all UHG. In this role you will lead a team of 7 direct reports and 400+ total global associates that optimize environments and solutions to meet evolving needs of customers and business. You will leverage your technology expertise to scale products and solutions to ensure performance and availability for the network, security and operational platforms. You will be expected to develop solutions across the Optum Technology landscape in partnership with business and technology leaders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Architect and operate an enterprise network for UHG
  • Deliver and manage enterprise security platforms for Enterprise Information Security
  • Ensure architectural standards and designs comply with our general computing controls and service standards
  • Provide strong technical guidance and vision for both the internal and cloud network architecture
  • Lead and drive Network Automation, AWS/Azure/GCP Networking, SDN/SDWAN design, validation, Lab and PoC testing and Pilots within Optum
  • Own the development of network solution standards with appropriate documentation, templates, use cases and acceptance testing
  • Management for network standards and develop strategy to support global deployments at scale. This includes providing supporting documentation and training to teams
  • Collaborate with automation and tools engineering team to drive supportable solution development with vision of Network Automation
  • Participate in large scale, multi-functional projects, including product development, merger and acquisition, and divestiture activities, with an open and creative mindset focused on delivering business solutions
  • Identify delineation between Network Architecture, Operations, Engineering and Application teams and route issues appropriately
  • Monitor and support critical all aspects of network, telecom and security platform application availability
  • Develop strategy for infrastructure/platform lifecycle management global for UHC
  • Communicates and negotiates direction with executive leadership and technical stakeholders
  • Champions and provides proactive leadership with compliance with security standards and regulations
  • Leads team through a systematic approach to confirm, identify and resolve system issues
  • Partnering with Product and Leaders to provide strategic oversight, analytics, and leadership
  • Partners with Enterprise Sourcing and Procurement to negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 15+ years of technology leadership experience
  • 10+ years of Network Architecture, Design and/or Engineering experience with a highly available global production infrastructure
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in a large enterprise with focus on SDN/SDWAN, Cloud Networks including AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • 5+ years of hands-on working knowledge of Network routing protocols BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, Cloud routing, Cloud infrastructure architecture, IaaS/PaaS offerings from major providers, etc.
  • Passion of Network automation with scripting experience in at least one Terraform, Python, Perl and/or YAML
  • Experienced in leading technology direction while influencing both technology delivery and business strategy
  • Experience communicating, collaborating, and negotiating with executive leadership
  • Track record of attracting, developing and retaining high-performing teams of senior technology professionals
  • Demonstrated interpersonal agility and conflict management skills
  • Global perspective

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $275,000 to $325,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
