The VP, Molecular Diagnostics Quality Assessments role will be a key contributor on the Optum Genomics team and will support the definition and build out of a technical assessment capability to evaluate the clinical and analytical validity of molecular diagnostics tests. This role will support multiple products across various business and require a solid background in partnering with regulatory and professional societies (FDA, CLIA, CLSI, CAP) to build consensus, and engage with test developers to help ensure proper test design and validation. This person must convince leaders and operators of his / her value, earn their trust and time, and work collaboratively to build actionable strategies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support cross-UHG initiatives spanning growth strategy, operational excellence and client / external party partnerships by directly scoping, initiating, documenting business requirement for the creation of a quality assessment product for laboratory developed tests (LDTs)
    • Establish criteria for determining Analytical Validity and Clinical Validity for LDTs
    • Get buy in from key stakeholders (professional society, regulators, test developers, and other quality assessment aggregators [NYSDOH]etc)
    • Draft communications strategies for various forums
  • Requirement gathering and decomposition for various stakeholder including technology. This will include establishing acceptance criteria for key component of the quality assessment template and user interface
  • Support a go to market approach and pipeline for quality assessments
    • Defining operating model / process to review, provide feedback and/or validate
    • Forecast volume of assessments coming in and associated staffing needs to support
    • Establishes a scalable format that can be leveraged by other products / businesses needing LDT quality assessment data
    • Partner with product teams across multiple businesses to ensure alignment and scalability
  • Provide consulting / advisory services for test developers
    • Test design and validation
    • Collaborate with key business partners to ensure the test / study validation metrics are appropriate for the intended use and clinical utility study endpoints
  • Onboards and manages the team executing quality assessment reviews
  • Establishes project / product success criteria and evaluates product performance
    • Summary statistics for quality assessments
    • Present options for problem resolution as necessary
  • Partners with the Product team to commercialize this capability across businesses

Required Qualifications:

  • MD Clinical Pathologist or PhD-FACMG in molecular genetics/laboratory genetics and genomics with 10+ years clinical experience
  • 3+ years of experience working with regulatory and professional societies focused on LDT Clinical and Analytical Validity
  • Experience developing quality assessments for LDTs
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects with tight deadlines. Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years industry experience
  • Participation in relevant professional societies
  • Demonstrates exceptional ability to drive results through strong collaborating and influencing skills across all business segments and geographies

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $142,300 to $273,200. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
