Vice President, Clinical Product Solutions and Strategy

Position Description

As a direct report to the Chief Clinical Officer of OptumCare, you will have primary oversight and responsibility for key business functions of the national Clinical Performance department for OptumCare. Your purview will include (but not be limited to) leadership of strategy and execution of clinical technology. Given the complex nature of OptumCare, the ability to achieve goals through a combination of direct and indirect influence will be critical.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain an overarching clinical business technology strategy to meet the rapidly changing national needs of the organization and gain alignment for strategy
  • Align business technology strategy with the Strategic Operating Platform Strategy for OptumCare and partner with Optum Technology leaders on a joint technology/business roadmap for clinical technology
  • Direct the delivery of extremely complex clinical solutions across multiple cross-functional matrixed teams (including external vendors)
  • Drive adoption and implementation of clinical technologies nationally
  • Serve as business owner for a platform of clinical technologies
  • Directly lead a team of 17 in the execution of business solutions programs in support of the Care Delivery clinical technology agenda
  • Partner with leaders in multiple organizations to leverage enterprise assets and services
  • Proactively manage the capital planning process for a capital budget of $20M
  • Collaborate with the Chief Clinical Officer and other senior leaders to provide strategic and project-oriented leadership
  • Negotiate complex business arrangements across entities to improve quality and financials
  • Drive growth through identification of new Clinical Performance opportunities
  • Ensure prioritization of initiatives and align initiatives and roadmaps with the capital and operations financial plans



Candidates will possess:

  • 1 0 + years of experience in the healthcare industry in an administrative/leadership position
  • 15 + years of experience leading complex technology/solutioning initiatives either from a business or a technology perspective
  • Proven ability to develop technology business strategy
  • Experience executing against a complicated clinical strategy with internal and external technology organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to get business results in a highly matrixed organization
  • Experience managing budgets in a complex matrixed corporate environment (including capital budgets of $10M+)
  • Track record of success bridging clinical, financial and administrative priorities and people
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build long-term relationships
  • Excellent presentation, writing, and negotiation skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to provide senior-level leadership over multiple disparate organizations
  • Consulting skills
  • Ability to influence others
  • Demonstrated people leadership and management skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time on a sustained basis
  • Experience within both Providers & Payers desired
