The schedule for this position is as follows; Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Occasional travel to American Health Network's Marion Eye Center is required (approximately 1-2 days per month).

The Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) performs a variety of duties related to providing patient ophthalmic care and customer service.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Obtain patient medical records/history
  • Perform preliminary eye function testing directly on patients
  • Scribe for Physicians during examinations
  • Assist Physicians with procedures
  • Triage patient phone calls
  • Prepare examination rooms and maintain inventory of medical supplies
  • Conduct patient education about procedures and proper medical care

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Current Ophthalmic certification or ability to obtain certification after 1 year of employment
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail systems, and web-based programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ophthalmic Assistant (OA/COA)
  • Medical Assistant (MA/CMA) or related clinical experience

Proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases is an employment requirement.
