This is an Account Management Leadership position responsible for achieving membership, revenue and profitability objectives for the Key Accounts segment. Responsibility includes leading Account Management Staff, retaining business and growing our business through our distribution partners. This role will lead the development of the annual Market Level Business Plan for the Key Accounts Account Management segment.

The position is aligned and works in close coordination with other market segments and product strategies within the market. You will develop best practices and performance strategies for the market. You'll also be responsible for management of the market's Key Account business plan and enhancing targeted broker/consultant communications for the market.

The role requires development of differentiated messages for the segment and external presentations using UnitedHealthcare (including UMR) best practices and resources. This position can interface with sophisticated clients, plan sponsors and external consultants who desire customized solutions. This role focuses responsibility on the support and retention of existing Key Account clients and expansion of specialty penetration.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement retention strategies for all products for the Key Accounts segment
  • Expand specialty sales in the existing block of business
  • Implement the market retention processes to support the health plan's business plan in the market segment and establish management systems to monitor progress and goal achievement
  • Develop best practices and work to implement those based on local market conditions
  • Recruit, train, develop, maintain and organize the Account Management team with an emphasis on account management and retention
  • Develop long-term strategic directions for the market and provides input for Key Accounts
  • Ultimate accountability for results of SAE and FAM teams
  • Possess expert consultative skillsMonitors on-going business plan performance throughout the year

Detailed understanding of UnitedHealthcare products, services and solutions including specialty product lines. This role will influence new product development and will identify new products that will be profitable for the organization.

Healthcare Knowledge

In-depth industry healthcare knowledge, understands important trends. Working knowledge of medical and pharmacy management, retiree strategies, specialty, clinical operations and techniques and network management strategies. Strives to understand goals, operating principles, strategies and competitive position of UnitedHealthcare.

Financial and Underwriting

Understands financing methodologies and strategies. Aligns these strategies with HP retention, membership and IOI goals. Thorough knowledge of underwriting principles and practices. Can explain and justify financial projections to external parties, if necessary. Understands the drivers of administrative costs and plan liabilities. Understands and executes pricing strategies at a block and individual case level.

Internal Operations and Capabilities

Understands company's information systems capabilities and strategies. Ability to navigate internal departments to produce positive service results for clients and the company. Must be able to maintain extensive knowledge of internal resources, roles/responsibilities and processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience
  • State Life and Health Insurance License
  • Successful history of account management in the managed healthcare industry
  • Strong results-oriented track record
  • Experience in full-range healthcare products, including but not limited to HMO,POS, PPO, Indemnity, Pharmacy and specialty products
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare systems and financing approaches and demonstrated ability to apply it in developing AM strategies
  • Travel as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • 2+ years of management experience, including the ability to create a strong and supportive culture throughout the AM team
