The Research division's Product Strategy team is responsible for defining the department's growth strategy and developing new products and services. In helping to fuel the growth engine of the department, the group works collaboratively with the leaders of Research. In addition to the conceptualization and launch of new products, this group will help to refine product strategy of existing Research programs and assets. This group offers motivated, entrepreneurial staff a unique opportunity to drive the firm's growth while inflecting systemic change across the healthcare industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Aid in the research, development, and launch of multiple new product or product strategy opportunities:
    • Ideate on new opportunities and products that align with the Advisory Board portfolio
    • Identify and size potential market opportunities
    • Conduct rigorous market and customer testing
    • Assess competitive pressures
    • Perform pro forma analyses
    • Steward internal approval process
    • Devise and execute marketing and sales strategies
    • Lead product development and due diligence
    • Drive initial product delivery
    • Build pipeline and drive business development as products launch
    • Work cross-functionally, including with sales, marketing, and corporate strategy teams
    • Manage appropriate staff for each product development project

  • Play a role in developing and refining the department's overall growth strategy:
    • Conduct strategic analyses to determine attractive product development and business development terrains
    • Spearhead projects to identify growth opportunities for the department
    • Expand the firm's knowledge base in emerging terrains
    • Consistently develop and evaluate new business opportunities
    • Act as an internal consultant on product innovation and growth for existing businesses

  • Mentor department staff and play a role in department operations

The successful individual will possess the following characteristics: comfort with ambiguity, ability to work in a matrix environment, ability to work collaboratively across teams, etc

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent of 8 years of professional experience
  • 4+ years of professional experience
  • Experience in Corporate Strategy, Start-Up, Business Development, Product Development, or New Product Launch
  • Experience influencing others without direct authority
  • Success working collaboratively in a matrixed environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA or other advanced degree
  • Experience in developing growth strategies for organization(s), particularly around new business lines
  • Experience working in a team environment, as well as independently and autonomously
  • Experience managing and coaching more junior team members
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior executives
  • Experience conducting root-cause analysis
  • Demonstrated experience meeting deadlines
  • Experience with solution focused problem solving and thinking through problems creatively
  • Willingness to take risks and act decisively with regard to new opportunities
  • Experience working with clients in a consultative role -- comfort engaging senior level people in back-and-forth conversation, ability to be convincing when necessary, and ability to develop strong relationships through each interaction
  • Health care clinical experience
