Regional Sales Manager - Seventh Generation

Background & Purpose of the Job

The Regional Sales Manager (RSM) will work to execute Unilever Naturals Channel strategies and merchandising objectives at Account Headquarters and retail through 3rd Party Sales Agents (Advantage Sales & Marketing-"ASM"). This person will work in concert with ASM's Business Development Managers and sales force to accomplish Unilever's business objectives.

Who You Are & What You'll Do

The Regional Sales Manager will develop sustained business relationships with both accounts and brokers in order to drive profitable sales volumes by developing a plan using key performance measures. The RSM will initiate the development and growth of the Unilever brands at retailers in their geography as well has serve as a 'brand ambassador'. The RSM actively reviews the competitive environment and works internally, with the account, and with ASM to adjust promotional plans where appropriate and prepare recommendations as needed for Unilever response.

  • You're a born leader: Manage and coordinate ASM resources to maximize effectiveness of assigned market objectives through Account Executives, Marketing, Retail Group, Administrators, and Broker senior management. Delegate work to ASMs, BDMs, CDMs, and Administrators where appropriate
  • You're a strategy guru: Identify opportunities and risks within the market in support of channel and corporate business objectives. Drive trade investment efficiencies while ensuring corporate goals are delivered, broker investment is maximized and customer strategies are met. Communicate opportunities, risks, and recommendations to management and internally.
  • You're a dot connector: Manage and coordinate Unilever resources to maximize effectiveness on assigned market performance to include Trade Marketing, Category Management, Consumer Insight, Supply Chain and Shopper Marketing
  • You love to win, and have fun doing it: Achieve assigned targets, including volume, spend, profitability, and appropriate KPI's as applicable. Engage in joint business planning with the BDM to develop a winning account plan.
  • You're a story teller: Craft and deliver winning sales stories to our retailers in support of achieving KPI's.
  • You're a teacher: Strong understanding of our story, mission, products and our point of difference. Educate broker partners and retailers to drive sales and create advocates for our brands. Guide ASM Partners on delivering spending efficiencies (ROI), strategies to managing spend within a Region, and AMPS Plan reconciliation as well as ensure all resources are available to the ASM Partners
  • You're a relationship builder: Develop Strategic Relationships to accelerate growth, while operating within approved Trade Marketing parameters, and driving trade investment effectiveness and efficiency
  • You're a paradox navigator: Routinely interface and work effectively with multiple internal departments/personnel, plus senior level and customer personnel, which may create complexity and time management challenges.

What You'll Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • 3-5 years Customer Management/Broker Management experience. Experience managing 3rd parties, Retail Store operations, HQ. Sales Experience, and Team Leadership Skills
  • Understanding of the Distributor Network and experience with UNFI, keHe and Market Center.
  • Experience selling to/working with Oliver's, Berkeley Bowl, New Leaf, Nugget, Whole Foods Market and other key Northern California retailers.
  • Excellent communication and follow up skills
  • Must be able to manage through 3rd parties and delegate responsibly
  • Business Planning and Implementation
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Be able to communicate throughout Unilever and ASM organization.

  • Consumer /Shopper Understanding
