The Nutrition and Health function is critical to achieving Unilever's purpose. Our team oversees Unilever's work to build strategic relationships with government, industry, public policy experts, and other key partners that are critical to the success of Unilever's goals, initiatives and commitments.

JOB PURPOSE

Unilever is uniquely positioned to be a leader in advocacy, policy and communication in sustainability, nutrition science and wellbeing and is now seeking a candidate to lead this initiative, working closely to create a positive external environment for Unilever's nutrition programme and our brands in the markets you will be responsible for.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBITIES BE?

External Engagement:

  • Represent and lead advocacy coalitions, leveraging private sector partners, and outreach and engagement of a diverse set of agencies and associations.
  • Motivation and leadership of Unilever's efforts to drive advocacy, policy and decision makers to improve nutrition and public health in your assigned region
  • Strong relationship building & communication skills with the ability to influence and partner with a large and diverse group of internal and external stakeholders including: students, researchers, faculty senior administrators as well as industry, government and regulatory partners

Strategy:

  • Set the short and long term nutrition strategic direction for all Foods and Refreshment categories in North America, ensuring alignment with the global nutrition agenda.
  • Works closely with Unilever business partners; (e.g., External Affairs, Issues Teams, Communication) to develop strategic influencing activities within the North American Region, and implementing the global strategies in the local environment as per agreed plans

Interpretation of Policy & Legislation:

  • Works closely with Regulatory Affairs to provide an understanding of impact of existing and anticipated nutrition related legislation and emerging issues for the region to drive innovation.
  • Works collaboratively with regional and country functions to implement new and changes to nutrition related regulations to assure on-going compliance.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree, M.S or Ph.D. in Nutrition, Food Science, Public Health or equivalent
  • 8 - 10 years of experience within an FMCG environment with knowledge of nutrition, public health sectors is highly desirable
  • Interacting with, and influencing external stakeholders (such as trade associations, key opinion leaders, regulatory authorities, etc)
  • Built a strong external network in the nutrition area
  • A strong track record of influencing to deliver program impact
  • Pro-active self-direction with a high level of initiative and persistence and a very much hands on approach to results delivery
  • Has the ability to assess risks and opportunities and the impact they may have on the business
  • Ability to effectively apply and implement argumentation in order to influence both with corporate and public sectors levels
  • Excellent communications and written skills
  • Comfort with multi-tasking and operating in a fast paced, multi-faceted, and multi-cultural environment
  • Comfort with matrix organizational environments
  • Excellent political acuity, tact, judgement and discretion
  • Exceptional skills in project management, ability to identify and address emerging issues as well as set and manage priorities and continuously improve processes and practices
