Background & Purposeof the Job

The Tea Engineer position based in the Suffolk Lipton Tea Factory will manage end-to-end delivery of a wide range of Safety, Quality, Infrastructure & Equipment Improvement, and Savings projects. This role is actively delivering Suffolk's capital investment agenda, as well as provides support and expertise to the day to day and reliability priorities and activities of the site. Reports to Site Engineering Manager, in Suffolk, VA. The Factory is tucked away in a quiet corner of Hampton Roads, a short commute from the city of Norfolk, and 45 minutes from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

Who You Are & WhatYou'll Do

The current team consists of a manager, a category engineer, project coordinators and technical experts, and onsite full-time contractors for detailed engineering and construction management. The Tea Engineer takes a leadership role over a portion of the capital project portfolio in the site. A successful Tea Engineer needs to be organized and detail oriented to deliver projects respective safety, product quality, project timing, and cost. The Tea Engineer needs to be flexible to changing priorities, and comfortable with working with technical experts and end-stakeholders alike.

You're a born leader: Direct management of improvement projects in a fast moving environment with many stakeholders requires the ability for independent decision making, constructive collaboration, managing expectations, and navigating tradeoffs for our customers. The position is responsible for cost estimating, analyzing options, building business cases, critiquing designs, managing construction, installation, commissioning, and handover with minimal supervision. As a member of management in a factory, you will be expected to lead other activities in our safety, quality, and continuous improvement programs.

You're a dot connector: The Tea Engineer must develop a strong partnership with plant Maintenance, Operations, Quality, Safety, our engineering network, and our Union workforce. Collaboration to deliver "production friendly equipment" requires a deep understanding of customer, contractor, and vendor needs and constraints.

You love to win, and have fundoing it: In the fast-paced world of engineering in a consumer goods factory, a positive and competitive attitude is a huge asset to properly manage the project portfolio and changing priorities and needs of the site and of the business.

WhatYou'll Need To Succeed


Education:BS in Engineering or equivalent technical degree.

ProjectManagement experience


Experience:2 Years of project or process Engineering in FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods)/ related industry or gained in an engineering consultancy environment

First-handexperience delivering capital projects within Unilever or similar FMCGenvironment
