Maintenance Mechanic - Manufacturing

Background & Purpose of the Job

We are actively seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our factory in Independence, Missouri. The incumbent will be responsible for installation and maintenance of equipment, systems, facilities associated with sophisticated high-speed process and packaging equipment. Work may include troubleshooting, maintenance, and/or rebuild of scales, mixers, pumps, blowers, valves, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, fillers, check weighers, X-Ray, carton & case packing, palletizing machines and related components. The Incumbent must possess strong critical & analytical thinking, troubleshooting and problem solving skills, strong electrical and mechanical skills, experienced using voltage & current meters, hand tools, plus large and small power tools.

Who You Are & What You'll Do

Performs mechanical work required for installation and maintenance of equipment, systems, and facilities, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer's specifications, and estimates jobs for material and labor.

With minimal supervision performs functions necessary to set-up, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, and/or rebuilds production and associated equipment.

Performs planned maintenance on and repairs plant facilities and mechanical systems.

Reviews schedule with production and assists with equipment changeovers to new sizes.

Perform scheduled maintenance during downtime.

Is proficient in troubleshooting basic electrical problems relating to Low Voltage and Three Phase electrical systems.

Responds to emergency situations, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical problems. Carries a radio for rapid response.

Capable of conducting root-cause analysis on breakdowns and stops on high speed equipment.

Utilizes CMMS work order system to initiate mechanical work for unscheduled jobs and develop material lists for ordering by supervision.

Stays abreast of changes in safety and code in the field through seminars and other educational means.

Comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards.

Must be a team player committed to working in a quality environment.

Perform other job-related duties as required.

Participate in Safety, Health and Environmental activities. Comply with environmental/pollution prevention programs.

Maintain work area in a clean, safe and sanitary condition-complying with 5S requirements of WCM and participate in all scheduled WCM activities.

What You'll Need To Succeed:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years hands-on production manufacturing experience as a manufacturing maintenance mechanic.
  • Must be able to read and work from circuit diagrams, blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Must be able and willing to work varying and extended shifts, plus weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must maintain good attend record
  • Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English to perform the duties of this position.
  • Food Manufacturing Industry experience is desirable.
