The Environmental & Sustainability Operations Manager has overall responsibility for managing environmental improvement activities to achieve excellence across the cluster. You will work with the Supply Chain team, Engineering and Non-Manufacturing to promote a sustainability mindset. In this high visibility role, you'll develop/deploy environmental strategies and improvement plans in order to achieve sustainable environmental excellence by reducing environmental impacts in the primary KPIs: COD, total waste, CO2 emissions, energy consumption and water use. You are responsible for ensuring compliance with all Unilever environmental standards in the cluster. They support environmental activities across all site-category combinations in the cluster and has a direct impact on environmental performance through monitoring of KPIs and using the Environmental Performance Reporting (EPR) system to generate reports on KPIs. As a key member of our leadership team, you'll interact directly with the Factory Directors to ensure compliance and Framework standards are maintained.

Who You Are & What You'll Do

  • You're a born leader: You understand how to influence behavior at all levels and foster a mindset of consciousness across the Supply Chain. You can champion potential CapEx to successful critical environmental proposal approvals.
  • You're a strategy guru: You are the established Subject Matter Expert and will develop cluster environmental strategy to deploy the global strategy, policy and standards across the cluster to achieve sustainable results. This will also include working with Procurement in developing various provider relationships and implementing new technologies.
  • You're a teacher: You see the gaps in critical knowledge. This fuels your ability to determine training needs as well as develop/deploy training programs to build new capabilities in the cluster.
  • You're a changemaker: You own continuous improvement and will implement the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Environmental pillar across network, coaching and tracking progress.


What You'll Need To Succeed
  • Bachelor's Degree in an associated scientific or related field of study
  • No less than 5 years of focused leadership experience in Environmental, Health and/or Safety related roles in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of current North American (United States and Canada) Environmental standards
  • The ability to lead and influence decision makers and stakeholders alike in a complex environment

The most successful candidate will have a history of EHS management in a factory or similar manufacturing-related setting with more recent experience in an environmental sustainability role. You'll have an ability to travel approximately 20% of the time - which is a distinct benefit in comparison to many similar roles in other countries. If located remotely, this percentage will increase significantly.
