Network Architect

Network Architect with proven ability to architect, design, implement, and manage complex and multinational network infrastructures with a team of network and systems architects to design and deploy new technologies and designs.

The incumbent will be responsible for deploying and maintaining technical infrastructure including but not limited to routers, switches, application delivery controllers, wireless controllers, and WAN acceleration platforms. The ideal candidate must be able to work closely with architects, engineers, vendors, and customer-facing teams to design, build, and maintain highly available production environments and design new office locations/expansions which will require coordination of hardware orders (network and server hardware, rack gear, security gear, and voice gear) wiring layouts, vendor services and data center/IDFcloset configuration. A highly disciplined and methodical approach to all tasks is essential to the position. The incumbent is also expected to perform the essential duties with little or no supervision, anticipating and planning for all possible outcomes based on actions taken. This position requires hands-on, practical experience.

Possess a broad level of experience with technical engineering and design. Must have strong organizational skills and problem-solving expertise, while working with current and emerging technologies. Must be able to manage very dynamic environments and have the ability to adapt quickly to technology changes at a moment’s notice to provide quick detailed solutions with little or no supervision.

Primary Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)

  • Responsible for the ongoing management and monitoring of Ultimate Software’s data/voice network infrastructure
  • Maintain data centers and MDF/IDF closets in a clean and professional manner
  • Accountable to provide sound problem determination and resolution, document methodologies, thorough knowledge of voice/data network management, execute hardware and software installations, and performance tuning and recovery
  • Design and manage complex technical projects
  • Recommend technical solutions based on detailed vendor product analysis
  • Provide clear, consistent, and accurate documentation
  • Work is primarily performed between 8:30am – 5:30pm, Monday-Friday, with “on-call” as all environments are expected to operate 24×7
  • Work on projects outside normal working hours


  • Proven ability to provide clear and consistent documentation with great attention for detail
  • Previous work experience following change management procedures
  • Expert working knowledge of:
  • Multi-vendor infrastructure platforms including Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, application delivery controllers, and WAN accelerators
  • Multi-vendor routing e.g. EIGRP, IGRP, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VRRP, route redistribution etc., and switching e.g. VLAN implementation, STP, VTP, access lists, L3 switching
  • LAN switching internetworking to include VLANs, spanning tree, trunking, port aggregation, and segmentation as well as TCP/IP protocol stack
  • Strong protocol analyzer/sniffer and related network diagnostic tools
  • Must have an understanding of load balancing and ADC strategies/ techniques, expertise in application switching / traffic management, knowledge of persistence and SSL certificates
  • Overall network management systems and applications with deep understanding of SNMP and Microsoft Windows Internetworking and troubleshooting
  • Experience with implementation and support of MPLS, Metro Ethernet networks, Metropolitan LANs and VPLS
  • Cisco technical certifications such as but not limited to CCNP, CCIE Datacenter or Routing/Switching
  • Self-motivated and capable of working effectively without supervision

  • Bachelor of Science degree preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Cisco network certifications such as CCIE Routing and Switching or CCIE Data Center

Travel Requirement:

  • Will be expected to travel up to 15% to various office/datacenter locations
  • Will be required to travel outside of the US and will require a valid passport
