Director, Total rewards

Design and administer a compensation philosophy and strategy that aligns with the company's overarching business strategy. Responsible for the various forms of direct compensation an employee receives (i.e. base pay, variable pay, short and long term incentives, equity, as well as promotions and pay increases). Leverage market data, conduct benchmarking, and research competency/function based practices that will meet business needs. The Total Rewards Director will partner closely with Benefits on indirect compensation, Performance Management on "Pay for Performance" and business leaders on communication and change management. Consider legal and regulatory issues and metrics. Manages Rewards & Recognition program.

Primary Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)

  • Assist business leaders with their year-end annual compensation process and influence leaders to achieve compensation objectives using established guidelines that correlate with performance. Partner with Performance Management.
  • Ensure the total rewards of base pay and incentive pay are aligned with business objectives and overall organizational goals and strategies.
  • Monitor internal equity and external competitiveness of the organization's compensation programs through strategic monitoring of business conditions, legal requirements and understanding of industry best practices.
  • Coach leaders on the company's compensation strategy, policies, programs and communications.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and serve as market expert regarding specific compensation issues.
  • Communicate, train, and provide guidance and tools to business leaders.
  • Coach business leaders on job evaluations; analyze job responsibilities, activities, duties, requirements and organizational structure and recommend internal job placement in the appropriate level, title and FLSA classification.
  • Support business leaders with compensation-related issues and questions.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws, including Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • Communicate any employment law updates/changes to organization.
  • Conduct compensation analysis utilizing salary surveys, compensation databases, job evaluations, pay reviews, etc.


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required.
  • 10+ years of related Compensation experience required.
  • 5+ years of partnership and influence with senior executives required.
  • Past management experience required.
  • Certified Compensation Professional designation required.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office Suite, primarily in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
  • Strong experience in regulatory employment law, specifically as it relates to FLSA.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, project management, communication, problem-solving and consultation skills required.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Total Rewards/Benefits experience preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR professional designation preferred.
  • Demonstrated business savvy and multi-tasking abilities in prior roles.
  • Must be a self-starter and highly organized.
  • Able to work independently and exercise sound business judgment.
  • Detail-oriented with commitment to quality.
  • Strong leadership presence with exceptional presentation and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with Compensation administration systems and salary surveys required.
  • Self-directed individual with initiative, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Project management and strategic planning skills.
