Tech Lead - Payments

As a leader of an engineering team, which is part of the core Payments Systems at Udemy, you’ll be responsible for leading a team of developers that build mission critical tools, API integrations and services for internal and external clients/systems. As with all parts of Udemy, having customer focus and a sharp data-driven mindset will be needed to analyse the performance goals of services/tools. Towards this goal, you will work in close collaboration with product managers, designers, user researchers, and other development teams at Udemy.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Main concentration area of services includes, but is not limited to, refund services, chargeback and dispute integrations with multiple payments gateways. Team scope sits in the middle of Udemy’s core transaction and revenue operations, which requires consuming or building (micro)services for the other systems
  • Providing hands-on technical guidance about software development best practices and processes
  • Hold regular 1:1's focused on coaching, mentoring, and career development to create an environment where people can grow and reach their full potential
  • Collaborating with product management, design and other engineering teams to define features for our instructors and students
  • Planning, organizing, and getting work done in an agile environment
  • Participating in code reviews as well as post-deployment site monitoring
  • Leading by example and contributing to a team culture that values quality, robustness, and scaleability while fostering innovation
  • Researching and evaluating new technologies that may improve our processes or code bases

We’re excited about you because you:

  • Have senior+ experience as a Software Engineer
  • Have strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
  • Are self-driven, own your services by all dimensions and intrinsically have a desire to get things done
  • Have superior design and architecture knowledge, as well as familiarity with object-oriented design patterns
  • Have experience building complex, high-performance, and highly available distributed software systems and successfully delivering to customers
  • Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication skills and sharp analytical abilities
  • Have demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and effective communication skills
  • Have knowledge of testing methods, including back-end and front-end unit and integration tests

Nice to have:

  • Professional experience in direct line management of software engineering teams
  • Experience with Python, Django
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, ElasticSearch, Redis, and MySQL
  • Scalable data processing techniques: Kafka, RabbitMQ, Celery
