Staff Software Engineer, Web

About the Role

As a member of the Merchant Growth team, you will be responsible for building solutions to drive merchant success on the Uber Eats platform. You will work alongside backend and web engineers, product managers, and designers to ship impactful products.

The initiative will focus on helping merchants across segments and lifecycles be the best version of themselves on the platform.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

1. Lead the design and architecture of a high-performance streaming platform, prioritizing scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
2. Collaborate with several cross-functional teams to define requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
3. Optimize existing streaming infrastructure for efficiency, latency, and freshness.
4. Devise and implement solutions that seamlessly scale with the growing needs of our user base.
5. Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge exchange and continuous improvement

---- Basic Qualifications ----

1. Bachelors or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field
2. Build and evolve the underlying architectural foundation for Merchant web applications
3. Create developer tools to increase the productivity and quality of our product teams
4. Continue to refine and define our tech stack, utilizing open source tools, generalizing product-specific code, and/or building novel solutions to needs we encounter
5. Contribute features and fixes back to open-source software, or create and promote our open-source tools
6. Communicate and collaborate within and across teams to drive company-wide, large-scale projects
7. Mentor, educate, and support those around you, as well as other web engineers within the company

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

1. Deep JavaScript knowledge and experience with Node.js
2. Expert in core and emerging web technologies and APIs (HTTP2, TCP/IP, CSS/HTML, Browser JS APIs).
3. Deep understanding of Web and Information Security concepts and concerns, such as CORS, CSP, CSRF, XSS, etc
4. Expert in debugging and profiling Browsers and Node.js, and understand ways to decrease page load speed and runtime slowdowns
5. Knowledgeable in modern web tools (npm, Babel, etc.) and modern web frameworks (React, Fusion, etc.)
