About the Role

The Senior Director, Head of Strategy & Planning will be responsible for defining and governing the long-term strategic roadmap for Uber Advertising. The leader's team will drive the overall planning cadence, performance management, and organizational strategy, as well as managing key internal stakeholders and growth opportunities for Uber's various lines of business. This Sr. director will also lead the newly formed partnerships team - from sourcing to managing relationships with BD.

This role reports to the Global Head of Uber Advertising and will directly lead three distinct, critical functions:

  1. Business Strategy & Planning
  2. Commercial Strategy
  3. Strategic Partnerships


What You'll Do

Strategic Planning (Business Strategy)

  • Strategic Roadmap Ownership: Define and champion the 3-5 year strategic framework and ambition for the organization, translating complex industry trends, competitive dynamics, and internal data into a clear, actionable vision.
  • Integrated Annual Planning: Lead and govern the annual planning cycle (covering strategic goals, financial targets, and resource allocation), crafting a compelling business narrative and partnering with cross-functional teams to define corresponding OKRs in a cohesive manner.
  • Governance & Performance Management: Design and maintain a lean, effective operating cadence for executive decision-making (e.g., MBRs/QBRs), ensuring rigorous goal and OKR tracking to measure progress, drive accountability, and position the business to outperform targets.
  • Industry & Competition: Direct comprehensive competitive analysis, identify emerging market opportunities, and refine Uber Advertising's core competitive strategy globally.

Commercial Strategy

  • Internal Stakeholder Strategy: Lead the strategic relationship management between Uber Advertising and the core Lines of Business (LOBs), specifically Mobility and Delivery, ensuring Ads capabilities are integrated and LOB growth goals are enabled.
  • Ads and LOB Representation: Serve as the strategic liaison between Ads and internal Uber stakeholders, effectively representing the Ads strategy and value proposition to LOBs while translating LOB-specific needs and priorities back to the Ads organization.
  • LOB Growth Enablement: Partner directly with LOB leadership and their internal Strategy & Planning functions to identify, analyze, and unlock new advertising revenue and feature opportunities tied to their business objectives and product roadmaps.
  • Operational Efficiency: Structure the LOB alignment function with a streamlined, high-impact focus, reflecting a mature and efficient engagement model appropriate for the scale of the Ads business.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Strategy: Define the long-term strategy for engaging with external parties, including third-party platforms, data providers, and strategic industry partners to enhance Uber Advertising's capabilities and reach.
  • Sourcing: Lead the strategic identification, initial assessment, and business case development for potential partnerships and investments.
  • Partnership Framework: Establish the overarching principles, evaluation criteria, and execution framework for all strategic partnerships.
  • Partner Management: Direct the operational management and governance of high-value partnerships, including defining performance metrics, optimizing partner value delivery, managing commercial terms, and leading strategic joint business reviews.

Leadership & Executive Communications

  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as the liaison to senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Finance to resolve strategic challenges and ensure execution alignment across organizational boundaries.
  • Executive Communications: Develop and deliver high-impact executive communications, ensuring clarity, data-driven conviction, and a unified narrative for C-level stakeholders.
  • Talent Leadership: Manage, mentor, and coach the multi-functional team of high-performing analysts and managers across the Business Strategy, Commercial Strategy, and Partnerships teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, or other strategic roles, with a proven track record of driving large-scale business impact.
  • 8+ years of management experience, including experience leading high-performing teams and managing managers across distinct functions.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Deep, demonstrable understanding of the advertising and/or marketing technology (AdTech/MarTech) landscape.
  • Proven expertise in end-to-end strategic project management, from hypothesis development and strategy creation to organizational alignment and governance.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and lead organizations through fast-paced, complex, and evolving business environments.
  • Exceptional executive-level communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling, data-driven narratives and influence C-level stakeholders globally.
  • Rigorous analytical and strategic mindset, capable of translating complex data into clear, high-priority business action items.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or MBA, with degrees in Economics, Statistics, Business, or Finance.
  • Previous experience operating in a global context, defining strategy across diverse markets.

For Chicago, IL-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$270,000 per year - USD$300,000 per year.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$270,000 per year - USD$300,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$270,000 per year - USD$300,000 per year.
