Product Manager - Advanced Technologies Group - Pittsburgh

Uber Overview

About Uber

We're changing the way people think about transportation. Not that long ago we were just an app to request premium black cars in a few metropolitan areas. Now we're a part of the logistical fabric of more than 500 cities around the world. Whether it's a ride, a sandwich, or a package, we use technology to give people what they want, when they want it.

For the people who drive with Uber, our app represents a flexible new way to earn money. For cities, we help strengthen local economies, improve access to transportation, and make streets safer.

And that's just what we're doing today. We're thinking about the future, too. With teams working on autonomous trucking and self-driving cars, we're in for the long haul. We're reimagining how people and things move from one place to the next.

Job Description

At a Glance

Uber's mission is "transportation as reliable as running water for everyone, everywhere". While we have found product-market fit with our core ridesharing service, it is absolutely day one for us. Self-driving cars have the potential to make our cities safer, more connected, and less congested. At Uber ATG, we are building the technologies and teams to bring these benefits to the world.

About the Roles

We're seeking a small group of talented and enthusiastic product managers to lead this effort. You will lead teams of engineers, data scientists, and designers to develop and scale software platforms that are critical to autonomous cars:

  • Offline Testing - deploy software quickly and safely through software performance measurement on millions of driving scenarios, all without deploying it onto actual vehicles.
  • Data - turn the vehicle into an API, develop highly scalable real-time data pipelines from cars to operators, and bring intelligence to every decision.

What You'll Need

To be successful, you will need to bring creativity, strong product judgment, vision, focus, and a bias towards action to your teams, with an ability to thrive in energizing environments. You should have significant experience building software platforms, strong technical backgrounds, and a commitment to inventing highly efficient and scalable systems.

This is a ground-zero opportunity to usher in a fundamental new way of thinking about transportation and technology, to solve really hard problems, and to experience explosive professional growth with the smartest minds in the industry. We hope you're as excited about it as we are.

  • Deep background in building scalable systems.
  • A computer science undergraduate degree or equivalent plus hands-on software engineering experience. Technical understanding should go from the highest abstractions down to the metal.
  • 5+ years experience delivering highly successful and innovative software products with your fingerprints all over them - you're extremely proud of what you've accomplished
  • Stellar design instincts and product taste.
  • A high bar across the board - from your own contributions to the people you work with to the products you work on.
  • A "driver" personality - biased toward action, great collaborator and master disambiguator/simplifier - constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery.
  • Grittiness. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and pursue something hands-on, you persevere when others fall away.
  • Finger-tippiness with data: you get the data you need with little fuss and can weave it into an insightful story. You know how to leverage data to make decisions without getting stuck in analysis paralysis.
  • Customer centricity - examples from your past of tough product challenges that you powered through because you were unwilling to make your problems your customers' problems.
  • True passion for Uber's mission.
  • A never-ending desire to grow and learn.
