About the Role

The mechanical engineer's role is to develop the mechanical components and assemblies necessary for the incorporation of these technologies.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop ATG mechanical components and assemblies
  • Work with internal and external (OEM or supplier) groups to resolve all mechanical issues between ATG content and the OEM vehicles
  • Manage and resolve technical issues between ATG content and OEM vehicle during development, prototype builds and production launch
  • Engage with OEM, suppliers and other partners on topics including product content, issue resolution and design changes
  • Engage internal cross-functional hardware/software engineers and experts as needed to implement mechanical design changes required to resolve cross-functional issues
  • Diagnose mechanical system interface issues and pinpoint areas that require resolution
  • Coordinate mechanical component and assembly testing and drive resolution of discovered issues
  • Define test plans required to prove out OEM led mechanical content interfacing with ATG hardware
  • Lead "Change Control" efforts to ensure compatibility

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a developer of complex mechanical or electromechanical systems
  • CAD design experience in SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar
  • Knowledge in developing components using a variety of materials and processes including injection molding, machining, bending, stamping, casting, and/or forging
  • Strong technical depth in mechanical design, requirements definitions and testing
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex environment under challenging timing constraints
  • Results oriented, experienced launching technical projects into series production
  • Experience working with suppliers and external partners
  • Comfortable with a dynamic, fast-paced, global environment of a start-up
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Willing to travel

Our teams in Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Toronto are dedicated to mapping, software and hardware development, vehicle safety, and operations for self-driving technology. Our teams are passionate about developing a self-driving system that will one day move people and things around more safely, efficiently, and cost effectively.

Our hardware team's role is to develop and integrate UBER self-driving technologies into existing and future vehicle platforms of multiple OEM's at scale.
