About the Role

We are currently searching for a Legal Director - Real Estate to join our Corporate Legal Team and be the primary legal contact for Uber's Real Estate & Places team. This is a great opportunity for a seasoned attorney with a strong background in commercial real estate to work on real estate matters in an exciting, fast-paced environment. The Legal Director will partner closely with the Real Estate & Places team to provide comprehensive legal support across all aspects of Uber's real estate portfolio. This person will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to drive business objectives while managing legal risks.

What You'll Do

  • Partner closely with Uber's Real Estate & Places Team on all aspects of Uber's global real estate portfolio
  • Lead and manage real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and financings. Draft, review, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, loan documents, leases, construction contracts, and related documents
  • Oversee the negotiation and execution of commercial leases, subleases, amendments, and property management agreements. Provide ongoing legal support for lease enforcement and dispute resolution
  • Advise on land use, zoning, and entitlement matters. Manage legal aspects of development projects, including environmental compliance, permitting, and construction agreements
  • Conduct thorough due diligence for real estate transactions. Identify and mitigate legal risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Work closely with internal teams, including finance, risk management, and various business and legal sub-teams to align legal strategies with business objectives. Provide proactive legal advice to support decision-making processes
  • Build strong relationships with business partners to ensure the right level of support and collaboration.
  • Manage outside counsel and supervise more junior team members as needed

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 12 years of experience in real estate law, with a focus on commercial transactions, development, and leasing. A combination of law firm and in-house experience is preferred
  • Strong understanding of real estate law, including contract negotiation, land use, zoning, and environmental regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to manage complex transactions and legal matters in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to provide practical legal solutions aligned with business goals
  • Law degree from an accredited institution and active membership in good standing in at least one state bar
  • Previous experience in global real estate is desirable
  • Outstanding analytical and legal skills, mature judgment, and innovative thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues
  • Consistent good judgment and ability to apply legal knowledge to help create practical business solutions
  • Flexibility, a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and the ability to constructively lead change
  • Unquestioned integrity and ethics in business and personal conduct
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to inspire and influence employees at every level to embrace compliance initiatives
  • Desire to be part of a cohesive and supportive team environment

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$284,000 per year - USD$315,500 per year.
