Uber’s Security team works to ensure the security of all private, personal and payment information for our full set of users – riders, drivers and partners. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every single experience with Uber is simple, secure, and safe.

We are seeking a talented engineer to join our Platform Security team, which is responsible for hardening the security infrastructure at Uber including production servers, corporate backend and endpoint devices. The Infrastructure Security Engineer, Data Security will focus on protection of data at rest and in transit, including data encryption, key management, and tokenization. This role reports to our Head of Platform Security and is based at Uber’s headquarters in San Francisco.

WHO YOU ARE

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on security engineer who is passionate about data protection.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

You’ll be pushing the boundaries of security technology to build defenses for large scale production infrastructure, enterprise systems, and cloud services.

  • Provide subject matter expertise on applied cryptography and key management
  • Perform security assessments of production, corporate, and cloud infrastructure
  • Build services & tools to protect our data
  • Harden our clients, servers, and networks against exploitation and privilege escalation
  • Instrument systems to enable detection of intrusions & abuse

HERE ARE THE KINDS OF SKILLS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 5+ years hands-on security engineering experience
  • Detailed knowledge of security, infrastructure operations, and software engineering practices
  • Expertise in applied cryptography and key management
  • Understanding of and experience with tokenization
  • Experience with operating systems internals and hardening (Linux, OS X, Windows)
  • Programming skills (Python, Go, C, Java, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, and directory services
  • Ability to develop creative solutions for complex security problems
